Led to God by God.

Last week at the university graduating students' thank you dinner, Dave sat by a teacher and his wife called Lisa and Cecil. We do not know them well but Lisa was very open in asking Dave questions about the Christian faith. She asked if she could talk some more with him and me another time. A few days later she called to make an appointment. Today she came to our home for a couple of hours. She told this story as I sat in total amazement...
Lisa and Cecil go walking on campus near the university church very early every morning. Lisa used to practice qi-gong exercises near the church, attempting to use this to make connection with a god who could help her. She liked exercising in front of the church because she sensed some special power there. Her husband was fearful of her doing qi-gong and asked her to stop, lest she get involved with strange spirits of some kind. She listened to him, and stopped, but she continued to believe there was some powerful God in and around our church.

Lisa knew this was a Christian church and so she started praying saying, "Dear Jesus." She had watched the movie "Anne of Green Gables," and observed how Marilla taught Anne to kneel by her bed and pray, "Dear Jesus."

Every day Lisa would stand at the church door and tell Jesus what she needed or wanted for that day. Every single day she received what she asked for. She was convinced that this was a powerful God.
Her husband took an interest in her prayers but as a scientist felt he couldn't fall for such a thing. However, one day he decided to try to see if this God answered prayer. He greatly wanted it to rain from 6 to 9 one evening to stop a local activity. So he said, "God if you will make it rain from 6 to 9, I will believe in You." At 6 o'clock there was a tremendous downpour. At 9 it lifted. He was incredulous but simply called it an amazing coincidence.
Recently Lisa had a new request for her Jesus. "Dear Jesus," she said, "I want to know You! I want to know who You are! I pray to You, but I don't know anything about You. Please, could you have Teacher David's wife lead me to know You?" When Dave sat by them at the dinner she was convinced this was God's answer and she was very excited.

Today Lisa was full of very basic questions. She said, "My husband wants to know if we are praying right. Will you teach us how to pray?" In the process of answering the meaning of praying "In Jesus' name", the whole gospel story came through. She was near tears, and so was I. It is so incredible to talk to someone who never heard of Jesus' birth, death, or resurrection before. We prayed together.

Lisa left with a New Testament and a copy of Dave's Science and Faith book for Cecil. We asked if Cecil would like to come ask questions too. She said he was too quiet and shy to talk about such things with us, but that he wanted to hear everything she learned. We said good-bye and then laughed and cried and prayed together over the grace of God in Lisa and Cecil's lives.

Pray that nothing will hinder them from a continuing search to know who Jesus is.
