Working Class Church Planting
We are building teams to start Christian communities amongst Taiwan's working class. We currently have community-based church planting ministries in Donggang (a fishing town of 50,000 south of Kaohsiung), Chiayi City, Zhongpu (a town of 50,000 east of Chiayi), Taiping (a working class town of 200,000 on the south of Taichung) and in the Wanhua district of Taipei.
We also have more specialized church planting work amongst shopworkers, the homeless and others. There are wide-open opportunities to begin new teams in unreached towns as God sends us more workers.
We seek to:
- Focus on a few needy areas with the lowest percentage of believers.
- Establish ministry teams.
- Be creative in establishing churches that fit working-class culture.
- Use reproducible methods that local believers can adopt.
- Encourage local Christians to take part in this kind of ministry by working with like-minded churches and organizations.
- Promote an indigenous biblical church movement multiplying across Taiwan.
You can read more about our approach to ministry in we seek to connect with people and start churches that multiply . The online booklet 'Church Planting Movements' also describes much of our thinking about how to plant "viral churches". (See the link on the right.)
The most needy areas for church planters are in central-south Taiwan (see the pale green area marked on the map below). Most townships in these areas contain only one or two struggling churches and many are less than 0.1% Christian.
