Wanhua Hope Team

The Wanhua Hope Team has been established to reach families in Wanhua by first building relationships with children. Family ministry in Wanhua involves:

  • Counseling programs in local schools.
  • Classes for low-income residents.
  • Children's activities in local parks and meeting halls.
  • Visiting families in their homes.
  • Individual follow-up of young people.
  • Discipleship of those who have believed.

The Lord has let us see a number of people make a commitment to the Lord and grow in their faith. We have been given many open doors to reach families through the local schools, but we lack workers.

We will also need prayer—prayer for a breakthrough in this spiritually dark area. Prayer that we will be able to stand firm in the midst of intense spiritual attacks.

Several short-term teams have helped us run programs in local schools and parks during school holidays. This has enabled us to reach thousands with the gospel. But the planting of seeds is only the beginning.

Wanhua Facts

Population - 200,000 registered residents (not including an estimated 100,000 unregistered residents)
Area - 8.8 sq. km (~34,000 people/sq.km)

Wanhua is an impoverished area in the oldest part of Taipei. It is an area with rampant idolatry, prostitution, organized crime and drug abuse. Poverty, family breakdown and social problems of almost every sort are prevalent here.

Wanhua houses Taipei's most active temple, the Long Shan Temple. It is an area of great spiritual darkness and neediness. Wanhua has the highest number of temples in Taipei.

The name “Wanhua” actually means “ten thousand glories.” But now, Wanhua has little glory and is even regarded as the “armpit of Taipei.”

When working-class people from other areas of Taiwan come to Taipei seeking work, Wanhua is often their first stop.
