Spirit mediums

The spirit mediums who take part in Taiwanese temple possessions often cut their bodies when the god takes control of them. The wounds are symbolic of the dangers that the people are trying to avoid by calling upon their gods and reminders of how little peace they really have.
Lord we pray that the Taiwanese working class would look to the One whose punishment can bring them peace and by whose wounds they can be healed. We ask that they will know the One who has gone beyond meaningless self-inflicted wounds to 'pour out his life' for them that they might know true peace. (Isaiah 53:5,12)
