Ghost Month

August 20th marked the beginning of Ghost Month this year in Taiwan. It is believed that the dead roam freely around the earth and must be appeased in order to prevent them from causing trouble in people's lives. To avoid the influences of these spirits, also called "good brothers", many people will not swim, move house, get married, start new businesses, or travel.
Lord, we know that if the Taiwanese working class turn from their fears of ghosts to You, that You will protect them from all evil; You will keep their souls safe. You will guard their comings and goings from this time forth and forever. (Psalm 121:7-8)
