Our ministries are governed by a few core values. These values come first from the Scriptures, and second from our years of experience in Taiwan. These values are:

Godliness

We believe that our personal godliness is the key to effective ministry.

An OMF leader once said, "One of the greatest contributions made by missionaries in Taiwan has been through the beneficial influence of the missionaries’ spiritual character and conduct." Therefore, OMF encourages its workers to continually develop and grow in their relationship with God.

A Sharp Focus

We believe that, in order to make a more significant impact, we must concentrate our ministries in a few key areas. To find out more about our decision to focus on Taiwan’s working class, click here .

There are certain ministries in which we choose not to be involved. This does not imply that these ministries are not important; we simply recognise that we cannot seek to do everything and still remain effective.

Partnership

As members of the body of Christ, we aim to work in partnership with local believers. We believe that partnership can exist when there is:

  • mutual respect, leading to open communication and co-operation
  • a clear agreement on the role, responsibilities and period of involvement of the missionary
  • a common vision and shared philosophy of ministry

In order to reach the unreached in Taiwan, it may be necessary for OMF to spearhead new ministries apart from the existing local church. However, we always seek to work with local co-workers—with the ultimate aim of handing our ministries over to Taiwanese leadership.

Church Planting And Perfecting

The goal of all our ministries is to see the establishment of healthy churches among all the different peoples in Taiwan. For example, even when ministering to the physical and personal needs of urban marginalised people, we have the ultimate aim of leading people to Christ and encouraging them to become members of His church.

Missionary Training

OMF encourages a lifelong attitude of learning and development, beginning with language acquisition and cultural adaptation. The choice of first language (Mandarin or Taiwanese) for a new worker will be dependent on the type and location of future ministry.
