Youth & Student Work

In the last couple of years God has given us some amazing opportunities to start working amongst unreached young people in Taiwan.

There is a wide open door run activities in schools. In Taichung, we run clubs in technical high schools. Young people are attracted to school sponsored pop music, dance and sports clubs. By connecting with the students in these ways we are able to start sharing the gospel with them.

A youth activity center in Chiayi is also attracting many young people who have never before heard the gospel. Most of these young people come from working class backgrounds, many are from broken families, almost all have grown up worshiping idols. However, they are hungry for love and open to people who are willing to give them time and care.

Most traditional youth work is addressed to the needs of Christian kids. This type of outreach to unchurched youth needs bold, creative methods. We go to where they are, use whatever it takes to connect with them, take time to listen to them and look for openings to tell them about a heavenly Father who loves them.

We also work amongst university students. OMF has had a long legacy in student work and helped establish Campus Evangelical Fellowship (Taiwan’s equivalent of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship) in 1957. We continue to partner with them establishing student fellowship groups, organising vacation camps and trainign leaders.

We are particularly targeting students at technical colleges and “lower-rung” universities as more of these students tend to come from working class families and there are very few Christians amongst them.
