"This is not a book of leadership theory. We have enough of those already. We need to develop skills that are part of the requirements for effective leadership. Allan tells us how, and the appeal of the book is that this is authentic stuff from a man of God who knows what he is talking about." David Pickard.

Allan Webb's book gets straight to the point about what makes a good Christian leader : Influence, Spiritual Authority, Vision and Faith, Servanthood, Lifelong Development, Calling and Equipping, and Competencies.

He deals with these topics in 7 chapters, that each begin with the following insightful premises:

  1. Godly leadership is influencing other people toward God's purposes for them primarily by setting the pace and showing the way.
  2. A Godly leader is one who demonstrates Christ-like character and empowered competence.
  3. A Godly leader is a person of genuine vision - seeing with the eye of faith what God purposes to do.
  4. Godly leadership is serving those we are called to lead.
  5. The formation of a Godly leader involves the lifelong development of Godly character, leadership skills and strategic values.
  6. Godly leaders have a proper estimate of their own strengths and limitations and are confident but not arrogant in their calling and equipping for spiritual leadership.
  7. Godly leadership involves developing team relationships, achieving tasks and inspiring and motivating those who are led.

This is the sort of book that would work well as a small group study, or in a short course on leadership in a church. It's relatively short (good for busy Singaporeans), an excellent read, practical and biblical, complete with questions for reflection and learning tasks to jolt any passive reader to search his or her own soul.
