Prayer and Partnership

What is Prayer & Partnership?

God has chosen to work through the prayers of his people. OMF is committed to serving the church in Asia and bringing the gospel to East Asians worldwide. But we can’t do it without prayer support. That is why we need committed pray-ers. Will you join that team and help build Christ’s church in East Asia?

What does OMF do?

One third of the world’s population lives in East Asia. That’s over two billion people, half of whom have never heard of Jesus. All are without God and without hope, unless they can be reached with the gospel. So OMF workers go to East Asia out of love for the lost, concern for God’s glory and in obedience to God’s Word.

Why does OMF need Prayer Partners?

In the work of God, prayer is vital. No Christian worker, whether at home or abroad, can ‘go it alone’. Every OMF worker needs a strong prayer base in their home country - people who will keep in touch with them, be aware of their pressures and come alongside them in their ministry. People who will pray.

You may not be a missionary, but that doesn’t mean you can’t play your part in the urgent evangelisation of East Asia’s billions.

Who can be a Prayer Partner?

If you, or your church, are willing to become Prayer Partners and support a particular OMFer, you will receive a regular flow of news to help you pray in an intelligent and informed way.

How does Prayer & Partnership work?

Before going to East Asia, OMF workers need a team of committed Prayer Partners, plus at least one supporting church.

What can we expect from the OMFer?

Our worker will send you regular prayer letters. This will keep you up to date with their ministry, personal life and will include news of the church and country they work in. Some of the information may be confidential. You will also receive a more general newsletter from the OMFer.

What do we receive from OMF?

To let you know what God is doing through OMF in East Asia we will send you our monthly newsletter, OMF News and bi-monthly PrayerNet, and quarterly magazine, East Asia’s Millions. We will also contact you should anything significant happen that might affect the health or well-being of the OMFer you are praying for.

What does OMF expect from me?

You will be asked to pray for an OMF worker; sharing their burdens and encouraging them by keeping in regular contact. Knowing they have regular, informed and committed prayer can make all the difference.

When they return to New Zealand on Home Assignment they will need your help and support as they adjust to life in New Zealand, strengthen links with their supporters and renew relationships with their home church.

What should I pray for?

Why not pray for the OMFer’s

  • ministry
  • family
  • relationships
  • spiritual walk
  • health and safety
  • language study
  • opportunities to witness
  • ability to disciple and encourage

Pray too for the country, government and church where they are based, and for the people they seek to reach. If you would like to know more, ask for How to Pray for Missionaries or How to Pray for Professionals Overseas on the reply slip.

What about church Prayer Partnership?

Churches wishing to become Prayer Partners are asked to give pastoral care, practical help and support when the OMFer returns to New Zealand.

What else can churches do?

Churches should keep their members informed about the OMFer’s ministry, pray for them regularly and ensure that their needs are not forgotten. Churches should also ensure that, despite the distance, the OMF worker is kept up to date and still feels part of the church’s life and witness.

‘I urge you, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me’ (Romans 15:30)‘The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective’ (James 5:16)
