Sapporo - it's closer than you think!

For nearly 50 years OMF has provided language training for its missionaries in Hokkaido’s capital city, Sapporo. Now with the completion of OMF’s spacious new premises, missionaries and Christian workers from all groups are invited to consider undertaking Japanese studies at the Center. And these days Sapporo has become more accessible than ever.

There are several flights each hour from Tokyo, and with advanced bookings, airfares can normally be purchased for 10,000 yen or less (about $US90). We can help you in booking flights, or you can refer to the relevant web sites as follows:

Our students appreciate being able to live and study in Sapporo for a number of reasons:

• Rents are normally about two-thirds of those in Tokyo and other major cities.
• Although the winters are cold, the summers are less humid and hot than other areas of Japan. There is no rainy season!
• The Sapporo Snow Festival is world famous and the mountains and lakes of Hokkaido are renowned for their beauty.
• Some students appreciate being removed geographically from their future place of ministry, in order to give focused attention to language study.
• There is a fine international school in Sapporo, teaching all grade levels.
