Hatazawa Christ Church
Hatazawa Church is located in Kisarazu, a city of about 120,000 on the "far", or eastern side of Tokyo Bay. The area is an old fishing area, and one can still see the ships come in and out of the harbor in the main part of town. After World War II, one of the largest steel mills in the world moved into the area, and most of the population now is connected to the mill in some way. And in recent years with improved transportation to Tokyo, there have been increasing numbers of commuters making the area home.
Hatazawa Church was started by OMF in 1984. The founding missionaries were Bob and Berti Cunningham; in the history of the church many different missionaries have served the Lord there. Ralph and Miho Clatworthy have been in charge of the church from 1994 to 2004. As of 2004, the church has a membership of around 23, and averages about the same for Sunday worship. Most of the members are steel mill families. There is excellent fellowship in the church, with members able to cooperate on just about whatever is necessary. Interestingly, the church is surprisingly supportive for its size of overseas missions.
