Sendai Coastal Area
The Miyagi coast was hardest hit of all areas, being mostly low-lying the tsunami devastated far inland and many people had nowhere to escape to. Sendai Evangelical Christian Church is on the edge of the submerged area and has reached out to those in evacuation shelters who lost homes and those affected in other ways since the beginning of the disaster. (Rod and Glenda Thomas lead this church and experienced the tsunami at Shichigahama. See http://rodthomas.drivehq.com/mission/welcome.html )
Those made homeless are now in temporary housing sites (THS) and there are 22516 homes in 398 locations in Miyagi, many of which are within a short drive from the church. The church's full-time evangelist Tadamitsu Nishimura and other church members have been distributing packs containing a NT, gospel tract and vitamin drink to each home and our aim to do them all. In addition they have held mini-concerts, barbecues etc at these THS. They are opening a relief centre/ preaching point in Arai Machi. Both Arai Machi and the church are on the edge of the devastated zone .
