“The Incomparable Pearl” is based on Matthew 13:45,46
As with Talk One, makes frequent use of Chinese sayings, starting with “The poor have their comforts, the rich have many sorrows.” Traces five stages of acquiring the incomparable pearl and relates each one to the experience of a seeker in coming to know Christ:
- DETERMINATION The merchant was “looking” for fine pearls. He was not half-hearted but really went for it! Many Chinese people who encounter the Christian faith are shown to be the same.
- DISCERNMENT He was looking for “fine” pearls. He was not prepared to settle for something second-rate or of questionable worth. Mention is made of Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons who seem to be the “real thing” but are in error over Jesus’s divinity and salvation. A Chinese man who had a dream in which only Jesus could rescue him from the pit of his sins and through which he became a Christian is included in this section.
- DISCOVERY He “found” one of great value. A newspaper advertisement by “Dr Amazing Abilities Zhang” is mentioned and Jesus is shown to have unique saving powers that, once experienced, are so life and destiny changing that the “finder” will want to share the Good News with everyone.
- DECISION He went and “sold everything he had”. A Chinese intellectual’s testimony is given - “I reached the point that I no longer cared what people thought of me, said about me or did to me. I decided to follow Jesus for life.” The pain of the Cross is what makes the Pearl!
- DARING He no longer doubted and no longer delayed, he took the great step where he “bought” it. The challenge and invitation is given to take Jesus as the incomparable, saving Pearl that He is by praying to receive Him and become a Christian.
