"Missionales Business" ist ein Begriff, der von verschiedenen Organisationen unterschiedlich gefüllt ist. 1. Was versteht OMF/ÜMG unter "Missional Business"?

When we began the process of understanding how business could be used by God on the field, it became apparent that Business AS Mission didn’t fit our approach. We didn’t want businesses to be set up as though they were the mission. We felt that God had far more in His purpose for business. Business AND Mission sounds very much like and additive process: 1 + 1 = 2. That could mean a sort of “glorified capitalism.”

In OMF we felt that the Mission came first and that the business was a vehicle to facilitate the mission of the field. Therefore, we are calling it Missional Business.

2. Was ist unser Ansatz zu "Missional Business"?

We are looking for people who will work together in teams to further the gospel through MB. We believe that it takes teams to have a skillset to do business well. It also takes teams to support one another in the difficult places.

We will do business in many places – Asia’s global cities, in smaller tribal areas, and everything in between. We believe that our MBs should be exemplary businesses that demonstrate the goodness and glory of God. They do pay their taxes, they don’t pay bribes and they operate in a transparently ethical way.

3. Was ist die "Missional Business Support Unit" (MBSU) und wie arbeitet sie?

The Missional Business Support Unit is a dedicated organizational structure to support MBs in OMF. We are experienced business people who are passionate about MB and want to see it prosper in OMF. We are open to networks and various types of collaboration. MB is the only thing we do. And we love it!

4. Welche Art von Unternehmen hat OMF/ÜMG im Blick?

We have no “One Right Business Model” of what the MB would be. For instance, it could be a software house, produce local goods or services, or be an educational facility. However, it must produce goods and services that enhance our witness in the community and provide value for the customers. Therefore, some businesses wouldn’t be appropriate. Those that destroy families, or don’t lift up the morals of the community would be deemed inappropriate.

We also seek to raise the level of business skill in the community by producing goods and services that ordinary people would buy. This may be producing for a local market, or it could be producing for export to a foreign market. That means we will push the MB to produce goods that can compete in the appropriate marketplace and provide services that are exemplary.

5. Welche Fähigkeiten werden gesucht?

People with standard business skills – accountants, marketing, product design, IT, Human Resources, business management, training, etc. If you have a desire to begin a Missional Business, we would expect that you would have a skillset that would be able to operate that business with team members.

We also ask our Missional Business candidates to fulfill all the standard requirements of OMF missionaries.

6. Für welchen Zeitraum sollte ich mich einsetzen?

We can use people who will work with us on a short term, Serve Asia, basis when they have a particular skillset that can be used by a business. In order to begin a business, we would ask you to have a longer-term commitment. In other words, we have flexibility depending upon your skills, the part you want to play in a missional business and our need.

8. Welche Möglichkeiten gibt es im Moment?

Opportunities exist in many countries:

• Vietnam
• Islamic world: tourism, fisheries, agriculture, forestry, mining, water purification
• High Tech innovation
• Process or quality consulting
• Teaching local Christians how to do MB

Other Roles needed:

• Entrepreneurs who have business experience who have a heart for seeing the Glory of God expressed through businesses.
• Field Champions: those who have demonstrated knowledge of how to run a small business and the theology of work, business, etc. They could live in a field and provide consultancy and service to ongoing businesses – this would be a minimum of a 2 year commitment. You would most likely be a Serve Asia worker or come into OMF as a member.
• Consultants of all kinds: Marketing is particularly needed as well as those who know process improvement. This would require a visit to a business in the field for 1-2 weeks and being available over Skype for 2 years. You would be a partner with OMF.
• In the MBSU Office in Singapore we are looking for an accountant, attorney and marketing person. These are not paid positions and could be part-time.
• Donors or investors who believe in what we are doing.
