• What can I offer if I were to go on short-term mission?
    • Everyone has a gift that they can use. What is yours? Whether it is praying, playing sports, cooking, working on computers, music, medicine, teaching, playing with children, art, photography, or simply the ability to love others, there is an opportunity for you.
  • I don’t think that I’m ready to go on a mission trip!
    • Although the Serve Asia program requires a certain level of independence and maturity, all of our Serve Asia workers from 19-65 years old are in a mentoring and discipleship journey. What is more important is that our Serve Asia workers are teachable, flexible, humble, and have a servant attitude. Serve Asia workers work alongside long-term missionaries and make a strategic contribution to the goal of a church movement in each of East Asia’s people groups.
  • What will I do during my short-term trip in East Asia?
    • Our Serve Asia teams offer a variety of possibilities from prayer walks and distributing literature to university outreach and teaching English or simply building friendships with locals.
  • Will I be effective even though I can’t speak the language?
    • Although knowing the local language is an asset, it is often not a requirement. However, if you don’t know your host language, why not challenge yourself to learn some of the basic language with a local? You may find they appreciate your effort.
  • How will I raise enough money for the trip?
    • Prayer and financial support is raised through writing prayer letters and sharing stories about how God will be using you in East Asia. We encourage our workers to have support contribution a third from Church, a third from Family and Friends, and a third from other means, which can include personal contributions.
    • “God’s work done in God’s way never lacks God’s supply.” ~ Hudson Taylor
  • Where does all the money go?
    • 100% of funds provided go toward your personal ministry expense. The majority of these funds go towards your international airfare to Asia. The remainder covers training and debriefing in Canada and in Asia, food and accommodations, and field travel and ministry costs while on the field. OMF Serve Asia only requires a $50 Administration Fee.
  • What type of training is involved before I leave for Asia?
    • Prior to leaving for Asia you will participate in a pre-field preparation weekend retreat. During the retreat you will interact and pray with other Canadians heading to serve in East Asia this summer.
    • Upon arrival, an OMF field host will provide on-field training specific to the country that you will be serving in.
    • Also, concluding your time in Asia you will participate in an on-field debriefing as well as debriefing upon return to Canada.
