Rural Primary School Teaching

Elementary Teaching

Overseeing a programme that provides basic teaching for more than 600 children all over Kratie province is exiting!

Through the school year 2005-06, OMF supported 15 teachers in 11 villages. 644 students received elementary teaching, including 282 girls.

Sadly, more than 70 students stopped attending classes some time during the year. This highlights the need for a “culture of learning” in these remote parts of the country. How do we convince parents that time spent in school is worth more than time spent in the fields? This continues to be an ongoing struggle.

Responding to the needs

A few years ago, the government requested OMF to move away from teaching Adult Literacy. The need was to help many remote villages where there is often a school building but no trained teacher to live there and teach regularly.

The villagers pick respected people from those villages. They are sent to us for a short training course after which they return to their village and get engaged in shaping the next generation.

Through regular visits, OMF ensures that teachers and children do what’s required: to teach and to go to school! Problems are tackled together. For the teacher, the most joyful part of the visit is still signing the receipt for his salary!

Into a new year with hope

During this current school year 2006-07, OMF has accepted 11 villages and supports 15 teachers. In five of those villages, OMF hasn’t had any previous involvement.

It's good to see new places, meet new students and new villagers. A loving God created those children with sharp minds and tender hearts. We long for them to develop to their fullest potential.

Additionally, as they hear the good news of their merciful savior, a new morning will dawn in these inaccessible communities in Kratie Province.
