Snoul (Kratie Province)

Land of Rubber and Pepper

Snoul is a small market town, close to the Vietnamese border and on the main road from Phnom Penh to Kratie, north east Cambodia and Laos. Thousands of people work in the huge rubber plantation, which provides the main source of income. The red, fertile soil is excellent for growing all kinds of fruit and vegetables. In April, people dry their freshly harvested pepper in the street, spreading its spicy aroma across the town. Khmer people mix with minority groups such as Cham, Phnong and Steang.

Prepared Hearts

As he co-ordinated and visited the network of literacy classes across the province, one OMFer often found himself having to stay in Snoul overnight. He noticed that although there was a Christian witness amongst tribal groups, no Khmer church existed in the town itself. Over time, people began to show interest in the gospel.

In September 2005, a small team left for Snuol with the aim of planting a church there. One of the team members helped with the English teaching programmes in the district's middle schools.

The main work consists of friendship building and basic evangelism. The team has been warmly received into the local community. Many neighbourhood kids are excited to learn new songs and stories at Sunday school. The evangelistic Bible study group regularly has about 10 visitors. Through English teaching and literacy classes, trust is being won in the town and surrounding villages.

At the 2006 Christmas celebration, around 200 people heard the gospel. We believe, God is saying to us: "...I am with you ... for I have many people in this city." Will you become part of God’s work in Snoul, too?

Workers needen

The team is still small, but we need more workers. We are praying for:

  • Evangelists and Church Planters
  • English, IT or Sports teachers
  • Agricultural experts
