Neak Loeung (South-East)

Reaching out to the “Yellow People” of Neak Loeung

“Neak Loeung” means “yellow people” in Khmer. It is located 65 Km South East from Phnom Pehn. There are about 20,000 populations, including Chinese and many Vietnamese in a variety of religions.

When a Korean couple and one German Missionary were praying for their future ministry, OMF suggested to plant new church there in 2000. They accepted this assignment because there is no church yet. In fact, it is a spiritual barren area.

Our Vision

Our vision is to see a strong and healthy church, comprising of 1% of the whole population (of 20,000).

Human Sacrifice

Neak Loeung has a miserable spiritual history such like human sacrifices until the 19 century and a many spiritual obstacles and barriers. Even though the team has faced spiritual hindrances in many areas, so far but it couldn’t bend their willingness to build the body of Christ and make Him known.

A Church established

‘Urban Mission’ is one of stratigic issues in 21st century because the world is rapidly urbanizing. But Cambodian urbanites are only 21% of population. This is very low compared with other Asian countries. Many people haven’t heard of Jesus in upcountry, but most missionaries proclaim the Gospel in the towns and cities.

Neak Loeung church has been there for four years now. We have seen many people leaving for the city. They want to achieve their life dream. We want them to meet Jesus, who can truly change their lives.

There are 30-40 regular attendants, young and old. 50-60 Sunday school children join in every Sunday and a youth group meeting is held with about 25 teenagers every Saturday. Over the last 4 years, 22 people got baptized.

We teach English, Korean and music through short term workers. This helps to establish friendship in the community with both open and even formerly hostile people.

Khmer Missionary

Srey Oen, a Khmer believer from Pochentong Church served alongside the foreign missionaries from 2001 until her wedding in 2006. As a lay worker, she helped in evangelism, Bible teaching and friendship making.
